Infrared Staff Protection Systems
For security guards, prison officers and drug rehabilitation workers,
the threat of personal attack is all too apparent. Unfortunately, in
today's increasingly violent society, doctors, nurses, teachers, civil
servants, shopworkers, night porters and cashiers are just as vulnerable.
The problem is, how do you safeguard against the risks? Enter Quantec
Responder, the infrared staff protection system that highlights exactly
where an attack is taking place within seconds.
HOW DOES RESPONDER WORK?
 |
Protecting staff
All at risk staff carry a special
rechargeable transmitter which they attach to their clothing.
Should an attack take place, they simply activate the transmitter
to fill the area with infrared and radio signals. These
signals are picked up by a special receiver which instantly
informs the system that an attack is taking place. An urgent,
piercing alarm is then sounded throughout the building and
the exact location of the incident is shown on all displays
for the swift response of security staff. As part of C-TEC's
Quantec Addressable Call System, Responder includes a variety
of lower priority call levels which can be used to
call for assistance as a dangerous situation develops. Calls
of this nature are reported directly to security staff and
can often result in incidents being diffused before staff are
verbally or physically abused.

Securing buildings
Before assailants strike, they
must first gain access to the areas where their victims are
located. Some professionals (doctors, nurses, teachers, etc.)
must work in the firing line by default. Others, such as
cashiers, civil servants and receptionists, are afforded
some protection from the buildings and offices they work
in. Responder can help reinforce this protection by monitoring
areas to which access is restricted. In addition to protecting
areas where staff are located, Responder's monitoring points
can also be used to secure drug cupboards, store rooms and
fire exits. Supplied complete with an isolating keyswitch
to reduce the risk of false alarms, they can also be connected
to pressure mats, vibration sensors and passive infrared
sensors for even more comprehensive protection.

Improving communication
Responder's lowest priority
'standard' call level can be used for a whole host of applications,
many unrelated to staff security.
From disabled persons toilet alarms in public buildings to interview
room call systems in housing offices, Responder's vast array of call
points, ceiling pulls, overdoor lights and reset points can achieve
it - at a fraction of the cost of installing separate, dedicated systems.

INNOVATIVE TRANSMITTERS
 |
Responder's range of rechargeable
dual-action infrared/radio transmitters have a typical infrared
transmitting range of 10m (line of sight) and a typical radio
transmitting range of around 60m.
Each transmitter has two infrared
emitters (one on each side to maximise performance), two
buttons (A & B) and a retained ‘pull
clip’.
Depending on its configuration, pressing a transmitter’s
buttons or activating its ‘pull clip’ will
generate a standard, help required, emergency or staff attack
call on a compatible Quantec infrared and/or radio receiver.
Housed in a tough plastic enclosure,
each transmitter provides battery low indication as standard
and can be recharged
fully in approximately 14 hours using the QT424/1 single
way charging
unit. A ten way charging unit, the QT424/10, is also available
for sites with multiple transmitters.
Two pre-configured transmitters
are available, the QT412RXA push for attack/pull
for attack transmitter and the QT412RXCA push
for call/pull for attack transmitter. If a different transmitter
configuration is required, the QT423 configurator
allows an engineer to reprogram any of the
above transmitters to suit the operational requirements
of an individual site.

SYSTEM INTEGRITY
Responder's job is simple -
to protect staff at all times. As such, we have ensured
the integrity of the system is never compromised. In addition
to the battery low indication feature on all QT412 range
transmitters, Responder's highly intelligent system controller
constantly supervises all network devices to ensure they
are working correctly. In the unlikely event that a device
should fail, Responder instantly displays its unique ID
number, helping to reduce system down-time, maintenance
time and
costs. A stand-by battery can also be added to the system
to provide essential protection in the event of a power cut.
